USS Dyess (DD-880/DDG-1) was a United States Navy Gearing-class destroyer that was in service from 1945 to 1982. The ship was named after Lieutenant Colonel William Edwin Dyess, a World War II hero who was awarded the Medal of Honor.

During its service, USS Dyess participated in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In 1962, it was converted into a guided missile destroyer and re-designated as DDG-1. It was the first US Navy ship to be equipped with the Terrier missile system.

USS Dyess earned several awards and commendations for its service, including the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

After being decommissioned in 1982, the ship was sold for scrapping in 1984. Its bell is now on display at the Texas Maritime Museum in Rockport, Texas, in honor of its namesake.
